About Inglefield, Indiana
Inglefield Indiana was originally named Gem City but changed names in the 1920s to commemorate arctic explorer Admiral Sir John Franklin Augustus Frederic Augustus Inglefield. The city was founded after the American Civil War by Major Alan Alden who is widely known for his heroic actions at the Battle of Atlanta.
Inglefield is most likely one of the nation’s greatest examples of a planned community. In 1917 construction began on a massive set of viaducts, bridges, and tunnels leading from the heart of the city all over America. With this massive construction project came many jobs. People from all across America started traveling to work on these projects as well as countless immigrants from England who were being recruited by Alden to help build these structures.
Major tourist attractions in Inglefield
The Inglefield Skyway – The longest man-made structure in the world, this series of viaducts will soon touch every corner of America.
Inglefield Aqueduct – This aqueduct stretches from sea to shining sea and supplies water to nearly half of all Americans. It is one of the largest single structures completed during the post-war boom.
Minnesota Rotary Circle – At one time it was believed that an enormous circular road near Minneapolis would be where most traffic into the city would travel but now only two roads connect to it.
